At the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit of Centro Médico Teknon, we carry out exhaustive diagnostic assessments for children and adolescents. This process is of great help in accurately identifying any developmental disorder, learning difficulties, or difficulties in emotional and behavioural management.
What does our neuropsychological assessment process consist of?
Each assessment we carry out is unique and adapted to the specific needs of each child, adolescent and family, with a close respectful and multimodal perspective.
It allows us to understand the cognitive, emotional and behavioural development of a child or adolescent, with the aim of identifying strengths, difficulties and specific need to offer the best appropriate guidance both to the family and to the school environment.
1. Initial Consultation and Information Gathering
The assessment begins with a comprehensive interview with the family to gather information about the child's clinical history, developmental milestones, and social, educational, and family context. We also review the child's academic history and family background to identify factors that may be affecting their development, learning, or overall well-being.
2. Neuropsychological and Emotional Exploration
Our unit has a repository of more than 160 active diagnostic tests. We select the most appropriate ones according to age, which can assess:
- Intelligence.
- Attention and Executive Functions: concentration, planning, mental flexibility, and self-control.
- Language and Social Communication: Assessment of comprehension, expression, and social skills.
- Learning: reading, writing, calculation.
- Emotional and social development.
- Affective Profile: We explore personality, emotional management, anxiety, and emotional estate.
- Social and family relationships.
3. Assessment of Learning
We carry out specific reading, writing and mathematical calculation tests, always adapted to age and academic level, avoiding overstimulation and focusing on the real needs detected.
4. Comprehensive and Multidisciplinary Perspective
To complete the diagnosis, we integrate the perspective of all environments. We use validated questionnaires for parents and teachers, which allows us to obtain perspective and performance in different contexts.
Delivery of Results and Clinical Report
All results are supervised and contrasted by different professionals who make up the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit, guaranteeing the highest scientific rigor.
After completing the assessment, a Diagnostic Report is delivered, which includes:
- Interpretation of Tests: A clear explanation of strengths and areas for improvement.
- Diagnostic Conclusion: Precise identification of difficulties based on clinical criteria.
- Personalized Action Plan: Necessary therapeutic recommendations.
- Medical Guidance: If necessary, advice on psychopharmacological treatment supervised by our psychiatrists.
- School Adaptations
Our objective is that, after this process, the family and teachers have a clear roadmap and specific tools to promote the academic, emotional, and social development of the child or adolescent.
