At Centro Médico Teknon, we offer specialized care aimed at children, adolescents and their families. Our objective is to understand the unique needs of each patient and accompany their emotional, social, academic, and family development from a comprehensive, close perspective based on scientific evidence.

We have a multidisciplinary team made up of specialists in child and adolescent psychology, neuropsychology, educational and learning support re-education and psychiatry, who work in coordination to carry out an accurate assessment and design individualized interventions. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit of Teknon responds to the need to offer high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic care in children and adolescent mental health.

Specialists in ASD detection and diagnosis

Early detection is fundamental to favor the development and quality of life of children and adolescents with ASD. Many signs appear progressively during the first years of life and may manifest in communication, language, social interaction, or through the game.

Some early signs that may indicate the need for a specialized assessment are:

  • Little eye contact or difficulty sharing attention.
  • Language delay or absence of communicative gestures.
  • Repetitive play or very restricted interests.
  • Difficulties in social interaction.
  • High sensitivity to sounds, textures, or changes in routine.
  • Intense irritability, rigidity, or difficulties in emotional regulation.

Our team carries out complete diagnostic assessments, integrating clinical observation, family interviews, neuropsychological tests and coordination with the school environment, to understand the global profile of the child or adolescent and guide the most appropriate treatment.

A comprehensive and personalized approach

We work from an individualized approach that considers the strengths, needs, and emotional, cognitive and sensory characteristics of each person.

We address difficulties related to:

  • Communication and social interaction.
  • Anxiety and emotional regulation.
  • Cognitive rigidity and difficulties with changes.
  • Behavioural problems and emotional alterations.
  • School and social difficulties.
  • Sensory hypersensitivity.
  • Low self-esteem, isolation, or associated emotional suffering.

We also pay special attention to situations of twice-exceptionality, where ASD can coexist with high intellectual abilities. These difficulties can go unnoticed for years and generate emotional, social, or academic difficulties if not correctly identified. A specialized assessment allows us to understand the complete profile of the child or adolescent and offer appropriate support.

We also pay attention to the possibility of the most frequent comorbid disorders associated with ASD, such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD, behavioural alteration, psychosis, tics, alterations in eating and sleep disorders.

Accompaniment for families

We understand that receiving a diagnosis or living with difficulties related to ASD can generate uncertainty, concern, and emotional exhaustion in families. For this reason, we give great importance to family accompaniment, offering guidance, follow-up, and tools adapted to each developmental stage.

We help families understand:

  • How to manage situations of dysregulation or behavioural alterations.
  • How to favour communication and autonomy.
  • How to adapt to routines and environments.
  • How to emotionally accompany their sons and daughters.

In addition, we carry out continuous follow-up of the patients and families treated at our centre, it’s assessing individually the need for therapeutic or psychopharmacological support, when necessary, always from a careful and personalized medical indication.

Our commitment is to offer each child, adolescent and family a close and trustworthy space, where they can find specialised guidance through comprehensive diagnosis and treatment in child and adolescent mental health.
