Continuous Care Unit

The Continuous Care Unit aims to provide comprehensive support to oncology patients throughout their entire care pathway, in coordination with their regular medical team.

The unit’s activity begins at the time of diagnosis, working closely with rapid diagnosis clinics to facilitate the efficient organization of the necessary tests and investigations.

Before the start of cancer treatment, a comprehensive patient assessment is carried out, including the identification of risk factors, pre-existing medical conditions, and guidance on preventive measures and vaccination.

During treatment, the unit provides care for patients who require symptom control or the management of complications, both on an outpatient basis and during hospitalization.

When hospital admission is required, the unit is responsible for the patient’s daily follow-up, treatment management, and coordination with the various specialists involved, ensuring continuity of care.

The unit is staffed by professionals from the Barcelona Oncology Institute (IOB) with extensive experience in the comprehensive management of oncology patients, enabling coordinated care tailored to each stage of the disease.

The unit also supports patients throughout all phases of their illness, including complex situations and advanced stages, providing care and support for both patients and their families.
